ABN (Australian Business Number)
An 11-digit number that identifies a business to the government and other businesses, generally required once selling moves beyond an occasional hobby.
Brand voice
The consistent tone, phrasing, and personality a business uses across its listings and communication, distinguishing it from a generic or interchangeable brand.
Channel
A specific place customers can buy from — such as Shopify, Etsy, a marketplace, or a market stall — distinct from the products or listings themselves.
Cross-listing
Publishing the same or an adapted version of a product listing across more than one sales channel, such as both Shopify and Etsy.
Draft product
A product listing created but not yet published or visible to customers, allowing review and edits before it goes live.
Dropshipping
A retail model where a seller lists products without holding inventory, and a third-party supplier ships directly to the customer on the seller's behalf.
GST (Goods and Services Tax)
Australia's broad-based tax of 10% on most goods, services, and other items sold or consumed in Australia, relevant to pricing and registration for growing sellers.
GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)
A standardised, globally unique number (including barcodes like UPC and EAN) used to identify a specific product, distinct from a seller's own internal SKU.
Listing
A single product page or entry on a sales channel, including its title, description, photos, price, and other details a buyer sees.
Marketplace
An online platform where multiple independent sellers list products for a shared audience, such as Etsy, eBay, Amazon, or Kogan Marketplace.
Product feed
A structured file or data stream listing product details in a standard format, used to sync a catalogue with a marketplace, ad platform, or comparison shopping engine.
SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
A unique code assigned to a specific product variant, used to track inventory and sales for that exact item.
