A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is a standardised identifier used across the retail industry. It commonly appears in barcode formats such as UPC and EAN.
Unlike a SKU, which is internal to your own store, a GTIN is meant to be globally unique and shared across any retailer selling the exact same manufactured product. Handmade and small-batch products often don't have one, since they're not mass-manufactured with a registered barcode.
Some marketplaces require a GTIN for certain product categories, while allowing exemptions for some handmade, custom, or private-label goods. Check the current rules for each marketplace and category rather than assuming an exemption applies.
